Today, cities are keying into the smart city framework as an approach and solutions to urban planning, urban services, development, and environment management. Smart cities will be integral to supporting and building the businesses of tomorrow.

Malaysia, like many advanced nations, is keying into adopting the smart city project. In Johor, the country has revealed its groundwork for the smart city project.

This is Malaysia’s way of integrating smart technology in public spaces to make life safer and easier. In this post, we will discuss everything you need to know about Malaysia’s smart city framework (MSCF).

Smart city project in Malaysia is an initiative geared towards promoting urbanization, industrialization, and informatization using the internet of things. Through this initiative, strategies, and policies, a smart living will be established.

Many Malaysians living in urban areas are faced with pain points such as pollution, congestion, and poor deployment of urban services.

A smart city is a next-generation solution that aims to address these issues and improve the quality of life of urban dwellers, which in turn, stimulates economic and social development and leads to the continuous growth of the rural and urban areas.

1. 5G in Malaysia

The Malaysian government through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission set up a national 5G task force in 2018 to explore and recommend an innovative approach for the deployment of 5G networks in Malaysia.

The purpose of deploying this network is to serve as the backbone of tomorrow’s business. 5G technology can support more devices that are becoming a global trend in mobile technology.

Because the government has the intention of utilizing this aspect of the technology in supporting businesses, businesses should learn how the technology works.

2. Build a Competitive Economy

Improving urban services will lead to a steady rise in the urban economy. When the issues facing urban areas are addressed, businesses can run more competitively. This also creates a smart environment that promotes smart living. All of these, of course, would stimulate the economy.

For example, with the integration of the internet of things in the travel industry, travel time will be reduced, which in turn, boosts the travel industry. Inevitably, it will also boost the Malaysian GDP leading to constant economic growth.

3. How Smart Cities Utilize Solar Energy

Thanks to solar energy, the future of Malaysia is going to be more connected and sustainable. Integrating solar power sources into society is going to change the way the nation operates and allow the citizens to maximize their potential as sustainable members of the global community.

The Malaysian government has set a sustainable goal to have the entire country run on sustainable energy. Through a series of government and privately funded projects, Malaysian communities are cutting down dependence on non-renewable energy generation in favour of solar energy.

Smart solution providers, including commercial solar companies, are providing the government with a high-tech energy management system to optimize the performance of energy generation, save on energy costs and minimize carbon output. This allows businesses to invest in renewable energy projects and benefit from the rapidly growing industry.

With the pressing issue of high carbon output, governments of varying nations are working hard to reduce the amount of carbon released into the environment by non-renewable energy sources. In this regard, building a smart city in which energy is generated by solar energy is one of the best solutions to reduce carbon output.

Solar panels will reduce the emission of carbon gases in urban areas thereby alleviating the damage of acid rain, smog, contaminated water sources, and climate change. Furthermore, it reduces energy bills for businesses making it possible for them to channel what they save to other areas.

For example, if you own a manufacturing facility that utilizes a solar panel to generate energy, the saved energy cost can be put into product R&D. In addition, solar panels also power diverse appliances without the need for a connection to the main electricity grid. This is a great way to ensure power supply availability.

In a Nutshell

Malaysia’s smart city framework (MSCF) is a wonderful initiative that will drive the socio-economic status of the nation towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Life in urban areas will become smart, easy, and more enjoyable.

As the government is actively promoting the use of renewable energy sources to the general public using incentives, widespread adoption of renewable energy, especially solar energy, is imminent.

In this regard, Solarvest plays a role in producing innovative solutions that can be integrated into an energy management system to maximize the performance of energy generation.
